Programs of Choice holding information sessions

HALL COUNTY, Ga. -- Hall County Schools has planned several information sessions for middle school students interested in the county's High School Programs of Choice initiative.

Programs of Choice gives talented and gifted students the opportunity to study specialized areas in which they excel. High schoolers are selected for the programs through a rigorous application process.

Some Programs of Choice tracks include:

I-Squared
West Hall HS

This program uses innovation and a project-based curriculum to reach students. Attendees choose three of five possible i2 classes to take: AP World History, Honors Biology, Accelerated Math, Honors American Literature and Honors Spanish.

JISA
Johnson HS

Johnson International Scholars Academy is a school-within-a-school that focuses on International Baccalaureate courses, world languages and global studies.

RACE
Chestatee HS

The Renaissance Academy for Creative Enterprises allows students to create technology-based portfolios in addition to completing their standard high school educations. RACE allows students to pursue their personal technology interests in the classroom.

STEM Academy
North Hall HS

This program provide a rigorous science, technology, engineering and math curriculum. Students are encouraged to work alone and in groups on in-depth research projects. STEM Academy offers both IB and Honors/AP paths.

In addition, Hall County students can enter a lottery drawing to attend the Global Studies and Leadership Academy at Flowery Branch High School or the Lanier Charter Career Academy.

The school district is offering two information sessions for eighth grade students who want to learn more about these and other programs.

The first one will be Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Oaks at LCCA, which is located at 2723 Tumbling Creek Road in Gainesville.

The second will be Thursday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Chestatee High School, also in Gainesville.
