HALL COUNTY, Ga. -- A woman was jailed without bond after reportedly shoplifting, then attacking a pregnant woman who tried to stop her.

It happened Aug. 29 at the Dollar General in the 5600 block of Atlanta Highway in Hall County.

Hall County Sheriff's officials said Bridgette Hughes entered the store at around 11 a.m., took merchandise and left without paying for it. An employee followed Hughes and confronted her in the parking lot.

According to a police report, Hughes struck the employee, Michele Bagwell, in the face several times. She also bit Bagwell's hand. Hughes' two young children watched the altercation.

Witnesses called 911, and Hughes was arrested at the scene. Investigators determined she was also in possession of Adderall that was not prescribed to her.

Bagwell, who is pregnant, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for observation.
