(WXIA) -- This weekend is expected to be hot, and the Georgia Department of Transportation will take advantage of the weather by using Friday, Saturday and Sunday to work on some much-needed road improvements.

Like last weekend, drivers are asked to avoid Interstate 285 if possible. Lane closures will result in major delays.
Scheduled I-285 projects include:
* 2 northbound lanes will be closed between South Cobb Drive and Paces Ferry Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete slab replacement
* 2 northbound lanes will be closed between Washington Road and Old National Highway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday for bridge joint repairs
* 2 eastbound lanes and 1 westbound lane will be closed between I-75 and Northside Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure work
Construction work will be performed on other highways as well:
Bartow County
* 1 right southbound lane of I-75 will be closed from 4 miles before Cass White Road to 3 miles before Cass White Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete repouring and bridge raising
* 1 left northbound lane of I-75 will be closed from 4 miles after Cass White Road to 3 miles after Cass White Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete repouring and bridge raising
Cherokee/Cobb counties
* 1 southbound lane of I-575 will have a rolling closure between Ridgewalk and Barrett parkways from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday
* 1 northbound lane of I-575 will have a rolling closure between Bells Ferry and Shallowford roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday
Coweta County
* 2 right northbound lanes of I-85 will be closed between Sharpsburg McCollum and Collinsworth roads from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily for noise wall construction
Fulton County
* 2 northbound lanes of I-75 will be closed between Howell Mill and Moores Mill roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday
* 1 northbound lane and 1 southbound lane of I-75 will be closed between the Brookwood Interchange and Deering Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. Saturday, and from 5 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday
* Closures will occur on Freedom Parkway throughout the weekend for paving
Fulton/Cobb counties
* Periodic traffic pacing will occur on I-75 north between Mt. Paran Road and Cumberland Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to mid-morning Saturday
Gwinnett County
* 1 right northbound lane of I-85 will be closed between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Indian Trail Lilburn Road from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily for surveying
Newton County
* 2 right eastbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between Almon Road and the Highway 278 Interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for resurfacing
Weekend events that could impact traffic including the International Woodworking Fair at the Georgia World Congress Center; Saturday's Atlanta Falcons game against the Tennessee Titans; and Sunday's Festival Peachtree Latino at Piedmont Park.
