HALL COUNTY, Ga.

New mental health center unvieled

ATLANTA – On Thursday, March 31, the Avita Community Partners will be opening a “community-based Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU)”.  Georgia is expanding community-based services for people with mental illnesses as an alternative to institutional care.

According to the Avita, “the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) operated by Avita Community Partners is the first location-based mental health service launched under the State’s newest agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice.”

Avita is located at 4331 Thurmond Tanner Parkway in Flowery Branch.

FLOWERY BRANCH – Residents of the Sterling on the Lake community are invited to attend a weekly Weight Watchers meeting. Weight Watchers meets every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m., at the community clubhouse which is located at 7004 Lake Sterling Boulevard in Flowery Branch.  

Weight Watchers is a program that, according to their philosophy, “provides information, knowledge, tools and motivation to help you make the decisions that are right for you about nutrition and exercise. We help you to make healthy eating decisions, and we encourage you to enjoy yourself by becoming more active”.  All, interested, community members are encouraged to attend.

Adult Children Caring for Elderly Parent(s) Support Group Web Meet Up

FLOWERY BRANCH -- Caring for a parent can be a difficult and sometimes lonely situation. An Adult Children Caring for Elderly Parent(s) Support Group for residents of Hall County will be hosting a web meet up at http://www.meetup.com/Adult-Children-Caring-for-Elderly-Parent-Parents/. This meet up will be held, free of charge from 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.

This web meet up is a place to find emotional and social support. Members of this group are looking to find places to take their elderly parent/parents where they can socialize with others their age. But not only that, members are looking to find places where they can take a break and go out without their parents and support one another.

The moderator suggests “if this is something you need in your life, then please join. We need each other’s help and support.

Firefighters to recognize Breast Cancer

From October 1st-9th, Gainesville and Hall County Firefighters will be wearing pink T-shirts to in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The two fire departments together sold almost 1,000 shirts, netting $2,000 for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.
