Next week, the first Lake Lanier Pet Fest will take place at Laurel Park (3100 Old Cleveland Highway, Gainesville) on September 25-26. This family and pet-friendly event is expected to draw thousands from Atlanta, Athens, Gainesville and the North Georgia Mountains to see the nationally-sanctioned Dixie Dock Dogs diving competition, which starts on Friday. Admission is $5 per car, per day; additional charges will be assessed for some activities.
A variety of talented local and national artists will perform live music on the shores of Lake Lanier, with this year’s headliner Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls; a folk rock duo that met during high school in Metro Atlanta.
The festival will feature herding and agility dog demonstrations, inflatable fun for the kids, and pets available for adoption.
