Police seek help in locating a bank robber

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – (submitted by City of Gainesville) On March 18, 2011 at 11:22am officers responded to an armed robbery at 1368 Browns Bridge Road, the business of Wells Fargo Bank.

The teller stated that a white male approached the counter, stated he had a gun and demanded money. The suspect did not produce a weapon but did leave the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect was wearing a camouflage hat, dark sunglasses, long sleeve dark colored shirt with white/horizontal stripes and white and red t-shirt underneath the long sleeve shirt and blue jeans. Suspect left the bank on foot heading west bound on Browns Bridge Road towards the Big Lot Shopping Plaza.

There was no one injured at the scene of the crime.

FLOWERY BRANCH – As the Hall County: Operation Thunder taskforce nears its halfway point, it can boast about 448 tickets to unbuckled drivers and almost thirty citations to careless parents who didn’t fasten their children’s belts.

According to Director Harris Blackwood, “540 Hall County families who will now double their chances of surviving a highway tragedy”, due to the tickets and citations issued. GOHS crash data shows unbuckled drivers and passengers, top the list of proven deadly crash factors in Gainesville and Hall County, followed by DUI and speed.

On January 27th, Operation Thunder patrols set out to cut back on DUI drivers and unbuckled drivers and they’ll continue this effort until April.

Sheriff's Office Investigating South Hall Home Invasion

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA -- (hallcounty.org) The Hall County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion that occurred in Chateau Glen Subdivision in South Hall.

On Friday, January 28, 2011, just before 9:00 AM, Deputies responded to Chateau Glen Drive off of Thompsons Mill Road (GA SR347) to a report of a home invasion and armed robbery. Upon arrival Deputies discovered that a Hispanic male knocked on the front door of a residence and told the female occupant that he had some “papers” for her husband. After the resident opened the door, the subject forced his way inside the home, brandished a handgun, and demanded cash.

After obtaining an undetermined amount of cash and a handgun from the victim, the suspect fled the scene in a burgundy colored, late 1990’s model compact SUV, possibly a GMC Jimmy.

No one was injured in the incident.

Former Bus Driver Sentanced for Possesion of Child Porn

A former Hall County bus driver, John Copper Spinks of Oakwood, Georgia, was sentenced today to six years in federal prison for his convictions of distribution, receipt and possession of child pornography.

Spinks was sentenced to six years in federal prison to be followed by 20 years of supervised release. He was also fined $2,000 with no chance of parole. According to United States Attorney Yates and the information presented during his guilty plea hearing on June 18, 2010, Spinks distributed images of child pornography over the internet to an undercover law enforcement officer who he encountered in a chat room named “Baby and Toddler Love".

In January 2010, Spinks was again found in a chat room known for trading images of child pornography. United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said, “As a school bus driver, this defendant was in daily contact with the children of Hall County.

Woman Tasered after Wreck with Patrol Car

A Flowery Branch woman is in police custody after leading Coweta County law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen car down Interstate 85 Monday.

She was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, according to authorities.
