BUFORD -- (Gwinnett Co. Sheriff’s Department) The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the February 17th, Polar Plunge at Lake Lanier to help raise money for Special Olympics Georgia.

The second annual Polar plunge event will be at the island’s Beach and Water Park in Buford. More than 250 plungers have registered from various agencies and businesses across metro Atlanta. The Gwinnett Sheriff’s team has approximately 20 plungers waiting to brave the icy waters.

The Polar Plunge is at 2 p.m. and the gates open at 11 a.m. There will be food, music, costume contests, a bounce house, dunking booths and Special Olympics athlete appearances. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics. Lake Lanier is waiving the gate fee for everyone attending the event.
